This Bright & Beachy City Home Belongs On The Coast

Homeowner Hailey Atkins’ life may be in Canada, but her heart lives in California. In reality, she lives on a quiet street in north Toronto with her husband, their three young children, Chase, 8, Harper, 6, and Jax, 2, and Pomeranians Vegas and Chloe. But that didn’t stop her from creating the West Coast beach house of her dreams. “I’m just a beach kind of girl,” she says. “Nature, warmth, ocean, sunshine — I love all that.”

The couple’s Toronto house began as a bland two-storey, five-bedroom new-build. But with its high ceilings and wide-open rooms, Hayley caught a glimpse of her fantasy life by the sea. She found a kindred spirit in designer Montana Burnett, and together, they spent more than a year on the project. Making ample use of bright whites, contrasting black and a range of natural wood and raffia accents, Montana and Hayley transformed the 4,500-square-foot house into a stunning homage to everything sun, sand and surf.
