Blank Canvas (DC-003) is Behr’s 2023 Color of the Year! This warm white reflects what many people are looking for in their decorating today: comfort and relaxation. “Blank Canvas really helps us hit the reset button; it’s a warm and engaging white,” says Erika Woelfel, the brand’s VP of Color and Creative Services. “We bring it into our spaces to add a calm, serene and uplifting mood.”

Create A Light, Neutral Envelope
“Use Blank Canvas to lighten up smaller areas in your home that don’t get a lot of natural light,” says House & Home Junior Design Editor Bona Kim. “Or go all out in larger spaces to create the perfect neutral envelope for layering in color and pattern.” Here, the shade softens contrasting elements such as black fixtures and window frames.
Layer It With Other Neutrals
This shade doesn’t have overly yellow, pink or grey undertones, meaning it’s the perfect white to pair with other neutrals. In this living room, Blank Canvas walls are mellow backdrop for a crisp, bright white mantel. “Blank Canvas is a beautiful creamy white with soft undertones that can work harmoniously alongside other whites and neutrals — without feeling too stark and sterile,” says Bona.
Add An Old World Vibe
Today’s design aesthetic is all about warm neutral tones, which means that this shade is right on trend. “As we move toward more moody, artisanal interiors, this soft, parchment-like color gives your walls that old world look,” says Deputy Editor Emma Reddington. “I’d love to see it in a kitchen as the backdrop to muddy green or merlot cabinets with white oak accents.”
Use It As A Jumping-off Point
This versatile hue offers a great foundation for colorful accents. Senior Interiors Editor Stacy Begg suggests using Blank Canvas on the walls in a child’s bedroom, and adding in fun, vibrant art and colorful bedding. Or, try it in the living room with a jewel-toned sofa and patterned throw pillows. In this bedroom, Blank Canvas creates a relaxing vibe, complementing the wood tones throughout.
