Tour A Sophisticated And Serene Ranch-style Home
Published on March 3, 2022

Tulsa-based designer Jill Croka believes that homes should be restorative. Her background in psychotherapy and interest in what she calls “healing design” is evident in her sophisticated spaces. In a recent home she designed for a busy family, every item, from the exquisite art to the sculptural lighting, was carefully chosen to create a soothing vibe.

The vision for this 6,000-square foot home was to design a modern California-inspired ranch with earth tones, layered textures and interesting shapes. Keep strolling to take a look inside!

The first light fixture selected for the house was the Apparatus Cloud light in the foyer. The client loved it so much, they bought another one for the lounge. A custom rug from Kasthall brightens up the entryway, and echoes the pool outside.

The client is a lover of art, and chose a standout piece for the foyer which is situated between two Pierre Jeanneret chairs. “The first piece selected for the house was the entry large-scale painting by Lars Tygesen. The colors help set the tone for the rest of the pieces in the adjacent spaces,” says Jill.

The second Apparatus Cloud light shines in the lounge, where the adults and older children like to entertain, read, listen to music or just enjoy quiet time. “The elegance of the fragile smoked glass and brass chain are a nice juxtaposition to the more linear architecture of the home,” says Jill. “We found a vintage Vladimir Keegan sofa and reupholstered the client’s existing Le Corbusier chairs in our signature mohair, and powder coated the metal to bring color and playfulness to the space.”

In the sleek kitchen, the client decided against a big vent hood, and instead opted for a pop up vent. The honed Dolce Vita stone is a favorite design element of Jill’s. A classic Lindsey Adelman branch light features smoky glass bubbles.

A second kitchen at the back of the house is used for additional cooking, entertaining and storing wine.

The open-concept great room houses one of the two kitchens, a dining room and an expansive living space. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the backyard pool and landscaping. “We believe a home should be a place of restoration and recharge,” says Jill.

The millwork in the kitchens and bathrooms are some of Jill’s favorite elements of the home. A custom brushed Ash vanity with wall-to-ceiling Ann Sacks tile can be seen in one of the five bathrooms.

The principal bedroom is a serene space with a low-profile bed and Lindsey Adelman sconces.

A freestanding tub against a wall of Calacatta Quarzite takes centerstage in the spa-like principal bathroom.

The spacious bathroom features rose gold plumbing and overlooks a beautifully landscaped vista.

The clients have sprawling his-and-hers closets. Hers in Ash and his in walnut. In her closet, a built-in vanity feels extra serene with a blue arm chair.

In their son’s bedroom, another Apparatus pendant acts as sculpture, while graphic wallpaper subs in for art.

Art by Ryan Cunningham brings a pop of color to the large family room that features a marble surround fireplace.

The daughter’s room has a relaxed boho feel with an oak dresser, hand plastered wallpaper and a frilly mirror by Ben & Anja.

A mix of sculptural furniture surrounds the modern pool.
