11 Home Design Trends Destined To Be Classics
Updated on May 14, 2025

H&H Deputy Editor Emma Reddington shares the home design trends that are destined to stand the test of time.
When we design our homes, we gravitate toward pieces that speak to us—elements that feel personal, collected, and, above all, lasting. Fortunately, many of the styles we’re loving now are built to endure. While fashion trends can be fleeting, home design moves at a more thoughtful pace, with many looks enjoying a life cycle of 5 to 7 years—or becoming perennial favorites. The standout trends for 2025 are no exception. Though they may be having a moment, they’re anything but temporary. In fact, several—like the return of skirted furniture —have already cemented their place as design classics. These are the trends destined to stand the test of time, seamlessly blending what’s now with what’s next.

Oxblood Red
Five years ago, our favourite dark hues were off-blacks, navy blues and forest greens but lately oxblood red has taken over as the colour of choice. We’re seeing it in kitchens, pantries and mudrooms like the one above by JPZ Interiors. This shade will continue to be popular.

Skirted Furniture
In our 2022 Trends report, we declared that skirted furniture and vanities would be filling our social media feeds, and we were right. Whether it’s finishing off the bottom of a sofa, covering a circular table or used in place of cabinet doors, the fabric skirt will remain popular in 2025.

Bold Pantries
The pantry has been a wish list item for a while now and if you’re lucky enough to have one why not make a statement with it? Lately, we’ve seen the humble butler’s pantry move into the spotlight with deeply hued walls, beautiful hardware and even wallpaper.

Wallpaper Murals
There’s something magical about a mural. It’s as if the walls have a story to tell and you’re invited to be a part of the fantasy. Maybe because of this we still see wallpaper murals popping up everywhere from dining rooms to bedrooms and hallways.

Small Country Printed Wallpaper
Speaking of wallpaper, the other trend still going strong is small scale prints with a country aesthetic. If you invested in this look, don’t fear — it is not going anywhere.

Colour Drenching
Last year, we claimed that colour drenching — a paint application technique that involves wrapping the whole space in one hue including all trim and mouldings — a trend to look out for. Well, these saturated rooms are still popular for 2025 as well. The effect can be especially dramatic if you pick a dynamic paint shade.

Wood Ceilings
Designers know that for a space to feel finished you need to address the ceiling. In recent years, wood panelling or wood beams have become their material of choice. And why not? It adds warmth and comfort to a space something we have all been craving.

Soft Roman Blinds
In our 2024 Trend Report, we named gently sweeping roman blinds on the list. This softer, more romantic look is still going strong and continues to grace windows in every room.

Café Curtains
Offering just the right amount of privacy without blocking out the light, whimsical café curtains have found a way into our homes, and we don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon.

Striped Upholstery
A mainstay of British designers, stripes are a classic motif that never really go out of style. While the choice may seem bold, you’ll be amazed at how easily they enliven the decoration of any room.

Beverage Stations
With many more people opting for non-alcoholic beverages, the typical bar in many homes has been replaced by the more democratic beverage station that includes kettles and grinders for tea and coffee, mini- fridges for sparkling water and fizzy drinks, ice makers, espresso machines and an assortment of mugs and glassware. No matter what you drink, the beverage station has you covered and will continue to be popular into 2025 and beyond.
